“Perhaps the village was too small for such a great ambition.”
“Who am I if I’m not in the village? I am my home, my roots, and my friends."
“Is it possible to sail far without leaving a part of yourself at the port?
“The silence of farewell weighs more than any suitcase, but within it lies the promise of return.
The End of the Last Summer is a future Visual Development project that will include character design, background design, keyframes and prop design. It tells the story of María, a 16-year-old girl from the coastal mediterranean village of Sant Llorenç del Mar, Valencia, during 1985. She loves the sea and dreams of exploring the world. Her father is a fisherman, and her mother works in a small grocery store.
María spends her days with her friends: Lola, who dreams of being an artist; Rubén, the joker; Guillem, the quiet reader; and Pau, the soccer enthusiast. They enjoy beach adventures, bike rides, and summer nights filled with stories and stargazing.
María receives an invitation from her aunt to move to Gran Canaria to pursue her career in oceanography. This opportunity excites her but also brings sadness as she would have to leave her village and friends. She spends her last summer cherishing every moment and plans to confess her feelings to Guillem.
Her friends support her decision, though Guillem remains silent until the last night when he admits he shares her feelings but encourages her to follow her dreams. The story ends with María’s emotional farewell at the bus stop, knowing she will always carry a piece of her village with her.
